In Southern California, we are not surprised when we see a high-speed chase on the news. If you watch the local news throughout the week, you will undoubtedly see at least one. This week proved no different. NBC4 Los Angeles reported on Filberto Alexander Felix who was arrested after allegedly stealing a Tesla in Riverside. According to the news report he led police on a pursuit from West Riverside all the way to Orange County where he was eventually apprehended.
Felix was booked into the Indio Jail on $150,000 bail and will be appearing in the Riverside County Superior Court. The stolen Tesla had an app that tracked its location. Police were able to find the vehicle as the suspect was exiting the 91 Freeway. The high-speed pursuit eventually ended when the Tesla’s batter lost energy.
The suspect has prior convictions and was charged with a number of crimes including felony evading, receiving stolen property and being a repeat offender.
Technology available today helped to capture the felon. Apps for locating cell phones, and now even vehicles, help law enforcement recover stolen property and get thieves into custody.
