The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office announced that it was charging Bill Cosby with aggravated indecent assault from a 2004 case. The criminal charges are the first after nearly 50 women have come forward accusing the former Cosby Show star of rape or sexual assault. In most cases, the statute of limitations has passed, but in the case of Andrea Constand, a former Temple University employee, the statute of limitations will not run out until next month. A newly elected Montgomery County District Attorney, Kevin Steele, who will take office after the 1st of the Year, held the press conference. He ran a campaign focused on prosecuting Bill Cosby for the sexual misconduct cases that have come to light over the past year. Constand and others allege that Cosby drugged and assaulted them. Constand previously filed a civil case that was settled in a confidential agreement. The District Attorney has stated that new evidence has come to light, which motivated the current criminal charges. Bill Cosby was released from jail after posting $1 million bail.
