$10 Million Bail set in Weinstein Rape Case

Disgraced Movie Mogul Harvey Weinstein was required to post 10% of the $10 million bail a New York judge set in his sexual assault case.  Weinstein surrendered to law enforcement early yesterday morning.  He was required to turn in his passport and stay in New York state or Connecticut as he awaits trial on the case.  Weinstein has been charged with a number of crimes including rape, sexual misconduct and forcible oral sex.  The judge also ordered him to wear a GPS monitor at all times.

The allegations stem from two separate incidents with two different women.  One woman accused the movie producer of forcing her to perform oral sex at his office and another alleged that he forced himself on her in a hotel room. Weinstein faced accusations from numerous women causing jurisdictions across the country to start investigating the accusations.  The Manhattan District Attorney is the first to prosecute Weinstein after facing pressure from the public.  Prior to last year’s revelations by celebrities, Weinstein had been accused of groping a model but the prosecutor declined to prosecute.  Mr. Weinstein could face up to 25 years on these charges.
