Teen held on $1 million bail after allegedly raping 72 year old woman

jail-cellHuntington Beach Police Department arrested 19-year-old Ahkail Demyers for allegedly raping a 72-year-old woman at her apartment in a Senior Living complex in Huntington Beach. The teenager faces numerous charges including forcible rape, sexual penetration by force, elder abuse and assault with the intent to commit a sexual offense during the commission of a first-degree burglary.

The incident occurred on August 9 at the Senior Living Apartment Complex located at Main Street and Yorktown Avenue. Authorities say that the teenager was visiting a family member when he offered his services as a masseuse to the victim. Once in the victim’s apartment, authorities say Demyers forced the woman into her bedroom and sexually assaulted her.

Due to the serious nature of the crimes, Demyers bail was set at $1 million. He faces up to 61 years in prison. At his court date a pretrial hearing was set for September 4 with a preliminary hearing set for October 2.

Bail is typically set based on the seriousness of the crime, past criminal record and flight risk determined by the defendant’s employment, financial resources, ties to the community and relatives in the area. In this circumstance, bail was set at $1 million due to the egregious nature of the offense.
