On Monday, April 2, 2012, One L. Goh, 43, a former nursing student at Oikos Christian University in Oakland, went on a shooting rampage, and shot and killed six women, one man and wounded three others. Goh stated his motive was that, “younger students showed him disrespect and made fun of his difficulty with the English language.”
Apparently, Goh walked into his former class and demanded that all the students “line up against the wall because I am going to kill you”. When they didn’t follow his orders, he began to shoot randomly at the students, resulting in seven deaths and three wound individuals in other parts of the school.
In 2011, Goh lost his mother and brother, and then was expelled from nursing school for being disruptive, along with apparently being thousands of dollars in debt. It appears that bullying at school is what threw him over the edge. It is also learned that Goh often talked about violence and going to the park to deliberately pick fights, which makes one think that he may have struggled with bullying and other issues throughout his life.
He left the scene and went to a nearby supermarket where he surrendered to the police. Obviously, Goh will be charged with multiple murders and attempted murder, and bail will most likely not be an option.

When you hear about such senseless tragedy, you wonder why someone would become so violent and believe that killing is the only way to satisfy their hurt and anger. Obviously, Goh is depressed and dealing with his own pain, but their must be a better way to express these feelings than going on a murder rampage.
While I am extremely saddened by the loss of these people, I can’t help but wonder about the pressure felt by someone to motivate them to act in such a horrific way. From what I have read, he didn’t show any emotion about what he had done, which leads me to believe that he might have been in an ‘insanity mode’ when he went on his killing spree.
My sympathy goes out to the families of those who fell-victim to this man’s aggression. I’m sure it will take this community a long time to recover, if ever.
What are your feelings about this terrible tragedy?
