Santa Ana police arrested Alberto Flores Ramirez, 36, of San Clemente, on Tuesday, charging him with rape and making criminal threats to a Simi Valley woman he met on a social network site.
Apparently, he lured the woman to a Santa Ana motel by telling her that he could help bring her children to the United States from Mexico by performing a spiritual cleansing ceremony that involved a raw egg.
When the first cleansing didn’t appear to work, he told her he would have to repeat the ceremony, only this time he attacked her, attempted to choke her and threatened to kill her if she didn’t stop fighting him. At that point he proceeded to rape her.
Ramirez was arrested and is being held on $100,000 bail, plus it was learned that he has an immigration hold.
The first thing that jumps out at me is that they met on a ‘social network’! This woman must have really been desperate or very naive to trust someone she didn’t know and then agree to meet him at a motel, and believe that a ‘raw egg’ would bring her children to the U.S.
While it’s wonderful that our world has become much smaller through social networks, it is very sad that there are people who pray on the weak to commit crimes for their own enjoyment. It’s obvious that social networks have a negative side to them because it has created a new medium that encourages crime.
I guess this proves that there are many sick people in this world and the Internet has allowed them to hide behind a computer to stalk those that believe they are telling the truth, and get them to meet them wherever they choose. It’s very scary to me because this could have ended in a much worse scenario.
