On Monday, February 13, 2012, Remington Orr, a 24-year old Custody Assistant at the Men’s Central Jail in downtown Los Angeles, was arrested on allegations that he was bringing contraband to jail inmates in exchange for monetary considerations.
He was subsequently arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell, Transportation of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell, and Bribery. Orr was booked into the Inmate Reception Center (IRC), and is being held in lieu of $1,000,000.00 bail.
Ok, I know he’s young, but how stupid can one be to think that you can get away with this in one of the largest jails in the state? It’s so difficult for me to comprehend the thought process that Orr went through believing he would not get caught. It’s an oxymoron when you find that an employee of a correctional facility is as much of a criminal as the inmates. I guess the background check run on Orr left something out!
What I learned about Remington Orr, after Googling his name, is that he is an aspiring model/actor/rapper who has now destroyed any possibility of a career in the movie industry over choosing to sell cocaine in the jail to inmates. He is in the process of recording an album titled, “Midnight Drop-Off”. How appropriate. Bad decision Remington! Bad decision!
Corruption within the justice system has been a problem for a long time. It’s a shame that Sheriff Lee Baca has had so many incidents under his jurisdiction.
What are your thoughts on this?
