The other day one of our agents received a call for a $20,000 bond out of Newport Beach. The agent met with the defendant’s friend at the Newport Beach Police Department to co-sign and post bail, however it was not that simple. Here is what happened. Over the weekend the defendant attended a wedding party at a nearby hotel where he and his friends were enjoying themselves. They were from out of state and wanted to have a good time while here in California and one of them engaged in hiring a women to spend time with him for the weekend. Once the weekend was over and the payment was made, the women became angry saying that she could have been able to acquire more money had she spent her time elsewhere. The man explained that he had already paid in full and proceeded to the airport for his flight home. While checking into the airport, the staff found drugs in the man’s luggage. Apparently the women was so upset that she put these into his luggage before his leaving. He was arrested and taken to the Newport Beach jail. Once our agent had submitted the bond for the defendant, he and the defendant’s friend awaited his release. While waiting the women shows up and begins to ask questions while she wanders around the Police Department. When our client was released him and the women began exchanging words which quickly led to a forming altercation. She started making threats to harm him, his friend, and our agent! This was all taking place in the parking lot of the police station mind you. Our agent then escorted our client and his friend to their car while the women was still yelling and becoming more upset. The two were finally able to make their way out of there in their car and after some time she cooled down and left the situation as well. Luckily no one was harmed and everyone made it home safe. What a day.
