Former Stockton Mayor out on Bail
Stockton’s former Mayor Anthony Silva was released on bail in the early hours of the morning Friday, March 23, 2018. According to authorities, he was arrested for allegedly violating the terms of his probation by possessing an AR-15-type automatic rifle. The embattled Mayor was on probation for providing alcohol to persons under the age of 21 but over the age of 18. As a condition of his probation he was prohibited from contacting one of the victims involved in the incident and prohibits the former Mayor from owning, possessing, purchasing or attempting to purchase a firearm.
Agents with the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Firearms conducted the arrest. It is unclear how the agents became aware of the gun. An attorney for Silva argued that his client was unaware of this condition of his probation. In an unrelated incident, a firearm was allegedly stolen from the former mayor’s home was used in the unsolved killing of a 13-year-old boy. Silva is also awaiting trial for allegedly embezzling and laundering money from the Boys & Girls Club of Stockton.
