Jack Wenpo Wu is being held on $322,000 bail after an arrest for felony grand theft by embezzlement.  The Orange County District Attorney has charged Wu with 21 felony counts of forgery as well as aggravated white-collar crime in addition to the embezzlement charges.  Wu was a volunteer treasurer for Dana Rohrabacher’s re-election committee.  It is alleged that he took $300,000 from the campaign funds to pay restitution to a company that had previously fired him.  Wu was making restitution payments to his previous employer Russell Fischer Inc. for allegedly issuing $12,000 in unauthorized payments to his company and collecting over $70,000 in unauthorized payroll.  $170,000 was discovered missing from the campaign fund when the campaign manager tried to pay a bill but had insufficient funds in the account. Wu could face over 20 years in prison if he is convicted of all charges.  Because of the nature of the crime, Wu must prove that money used to post bail comes from a legal source before he will be released from jail.
