Drunken Uber Passenger Who Attacked Driver Released on Bail

uber-logoIt just keeps getting worse for 32-year-old Benjamin Golden after a drunken Uber ride went viral. Golden caught a ride through Uber in Costa Mesa. During the ride, which was recorded by a dash cam video, Golden can be seen sliding from side-to-side, unable to give the driver confirmation of where to be dropped off. Golden then becomes violent toward the driver slapping him repeatedly in the back of the head and assaulting him. Golden was arrested on charges of assault and public intoxication. He was initially released on $500 bail but the Orange County District Attorney has allegedly charged him with assault on public transportation property, battery on a public transit employee with injury, assault and battery and is seeking to increase bail to $20,000. As a result of the case, Golden lost his job as an executive with Taco Bell and is now facing a civil lawsuit from the Uber driver. He has also been banned for life from using Uber. The assault has been viewed over 2 million times on YouTube.

If the allegations are true, Mr. Golden has likely gotten the week he deserves since violence is never the answer. One thing is certain; thank goodness for the quick thinking of the Uber driver and the handy pepper spray. Safety is of the utmost concern to all parties whether you are driving for a company like Uber or a passenger.

It looks like this is a case where Mr. Golden should have thought about the fact that too many drinks could result in a #MightNeedBail scenario.
