The Daily Bail Report – A Million Dollar Threat

1MM-dollar-billLast year we wrote a $1,000,000 bond for a client that was taken into custody shortly after he was released on additional charges and the bail was raised to $2,000,000. Today the charges were reduced and bail was lowered back to $1,000,000 and we posted a rewrite bond for him. A rewrite is a bond that we post for someone on a case that we had already posted a bond for but the case wasn’t filed in a timely manner and our original bond was exonerated.

So, when the client called to inform us that his new charges were dropped and his bail was reduced down to the original amount we were able to repost the bond for him. We never disclose our client’s information in our blog posts but we do explain the situation we were presented with for the purpose of educating our clients and ourselves. This was a scenario where the client was writing his employer (a huge company) letters complaining about the health of the work environment and that there were unhealthy working conditions. The company disagreed and ignored the issue (according to our client) so he escalated the letters to a point where they were becoming threatening. The letters were then turned in by the company to law enforcement and the arrest was made. According to the client, if what he is saying is true, we are all guilty of thinking, writing and speaking the things that were said in his letters.

The bottom line here is that when you are thinking about putting something in writing you might want to be sure that you clear it with an attorney first. It would have been much cheaper to hire an attorney to write the letter for him than to have to post bail, hire and attorney and lose a job because of it.
