As a parent, it is very unsettling to think that a teacher would be sick enough to trick his young students, who obviously didn’t know any better, into such sick “games”, as he called them. I am appalled that Berndt got away with this behavior for so many years. It’s not too far off from the Penn State scandal with Gerald “Jerry” Sandusky, only his “game” was a bit more sexual.I don’t understand how people in these school systems can ignore situations that are reported to them. Would they react the same way if it were their child, or grandchild? I doubt it very much. How can anyone bury their head in the sand when innocent children are involved?
Of course, no one thinks about the long-term affect these situations can and will have on these children. I can only hope that they find a way to rise above it and not let it hold them back from growing up without any lingering trauma.
Mark Berndt is being held on a $23 million bail. He faces many life sentences and at 61, he will surely die in prison.
