In the almost 11 years of writing bail in California, our senior bail agent Robert Martinez has only encountered a case like this 3 other times. Sharing this story I think really speaks to the current climate around the world after the attacks like Orlando or San Bernardino.
Robert was called in to assist on a bond out of Orange County for $100,000.00. It was a case involving two felonies and one misdemeanor, which isn’t really a huge deal until you hear the story behind what took place.
We worked with the husband and his sister-in-law to get our client out on bail, but it was a tricky one to work with because of the circumstances.
Allegedly, our client was buying guns and ammo online with a credit card. The FBI had been tracking purchases on that card because they were happening across state-lines. The FBI showed up to our clients home and placed her under arrest, they took all of the weapons they had in a spare room and 10,000 rounds of ammunition. In addition to that, they took their 3 children and placed them in Child Protective Services, stating that the children were in danger.
Now, what allowed the FBI to come in with such force was that our client and her husband both had priors for domestic violence involving each other.
I think this shows the shear force and vigilance of the FBI to curb any potential threats of any more mass shootings. Not that our client was even considering that and she will have her day in court to fight the charges. At least for now, she is out of jail and able to work on building her defense and get her life back on track while her case is pending.
