One thing I hate more than crooked cops is the DMV; I know you are shaking your head yes right now! However, as a cop is and should be held to higher standard being a public servant and all, it does happen. On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being the worst, in my book this is a one! It isn’t right for an officer to go or be above the law, it is his or her sworn duty to enforce the laws, at least he didn’t shoot an unarmed person in the back, I can at least be happy with that.
To me it sounds like he was helping out a friend or friends, kind of like if you or a loved one had an injury and you had a doctor friend, you would call him for help. However the difference is that wouldn’t be illegal.
In this case the thing that comes to mind is “You do the crime, you do the time!” With 13 years on the force he should have known better, a lot better!
I understand the frustration with losing your license, I currently have a friend who is going through his second DUI and his biggest concern is his license. He needs it for work but in the great State of California, if you refuse the sobriety test the DMV sees that as an admission of guilt, which I think is stupid. When did the DMV get to be Judge and Jury and executioner? They will take away your license for up to a year and that is the law! See Here.
