Defending The Cash Bail System at UCLA Law School
Recently I appeared on a panel at UCLA law school for a symposium on the status of Bail Reform in California and Nationwide There have been some landmark cases recently in the US challenging our current national bail system, here in California it has been the People vs. Humphrey ruling in San Francisco. Because this topic is so hot, it was the theme of the discussion. There were two panels of speakers, I was on the first one along with a Public Defender from Los Angeles, the head of pre-trial services in Santa Clara, and a representative from The Bail Project, a grass roots organization. This was a pretty liberal panel and I was outnumbered three to one but I was glad to contribute to the defense of bail in our justice system. You can check out part of the discussion here.
