This seven story structure covers an entire city block, with 470,000 square feet of floor space. It is occupied by an average of 3,812 people per day, 774 of which are jurors, 660 employees, and 1,500 litigants and attorneys. These courtrooms handle a wide variety of legal process including arraignments, preliminary hearings, misdemeanor and felony trials, bail bond hearings, family law cases, and civil writs. There are security screening checkpoints at both of the entrances to the courthouse which are designed to keep weapons from entering the building.

These courts hear Superior and Municipal civil law and motion, along with petitions for name change, emancipation of minors and certain probate matters, including demurrers, discovery matters, motions for summary judgment, summary adjudication and judgment on the pleadings. These courts are located in the County Employees Credit Union building.

Probate (Dept. 55) and Family Court Services (FCS) share this brick building located on the corner of 9th and H Street. Dept. 55 handles the filing and processing of probate documents and the related court hearings. It also deals with conservatorship and guardianships. FCS is a family counseling service operated by Sacramento County that makes recommendations regarding changes in child custody cases and visitation.

Department 58 & 59 are civil settlement courts and are located north of the jury parking, next to the main courthouse.

The entrance to these four courtrooms is through the front doors of the Sheriff's Main Jail. These courtrooms are used for arraignments, posting bail bonds and criminal law and motions.

The Carol Miller Justice Center handles all small claim cases and unlawful detainers, as well as, adult and juvenile traffic citations and warrants that need bail.

B.T. Collins Juvenile Justice Center (Departments 90 through 96)

These courts are located at the north end of the county complex at Kiefer and Bradshaw. All juvenile cases, except traffic, are heard here.

South Sacramento County Municipal Courts
The county provides specific court services to the outlying communities of Elk Grove, Galt and Walnut Grove, on a rotating basis. These services include civil/small claims actions, arraignments, traffic citations, and misdemeanor trials. Court is held in Elk Grove on Monday and Tuesday, Galt on Wednesday and Walnut Grove on Thursday at the following locations:

Division PhotoThe Main Jail provides custodial and security services for incarcerated and detained individuals for the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and other outside agencies. In doing so, the division is responsible for the health, safety, care and welfare of those individuals housed in the facility, as well as for the safety of those sworn and civilian employees who provide services within the Mail Jail Division.

Division PhotoThe Rio Cosumnes Correctional Center (RCCC) is the primary custody facility for inmates (males only) sentenced to County Jail from the Sacramento County Courts. An increasing percentage of the inmates are pre-sentence detainees housed at RCCC to keep the population at the Main Jail below the limit set by Federal decree. In addition, the Correctional Center houses inmates en route to other jurisdictions, federal prisoners under a contract with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons, and reciprocal prisoners from other counties. RCCC is the primary reception point for parole violators who are being held pending revocation hearings and the central transportation point for all defendants sentenced to State Prison. Classified as a Type II facility, RCCC accepts newly arrested persons (males only) booked by law enforcement agencies in the south part of Sacramento County. A staff of over 180 Sheriff's Department employees provides supervision to all inmates to ensure they live in a safe, secure and healthy environment. Several support services activities augment the custody staff and provide needed services and programs for inmate housing.
