California Bail Information and Charges

Vehicle Code 2800.1

If a person is arrested for a violation of Vehicle Code 2800.1, then the person has been arrested for evading a police officer. Such an arrest generally accompanies another illegal action on the defendant’s part. Thus, when the person is taken to jail, he will not only be arrested for violation of code 2800.1, but he will be arrested for any additional violations as well. When it comes time for the bail to be determined, the police officers will tally the bails that are associated with each of the offenses for which the defendant was arrested.

If a defendant is given the opportunity to get out of jail on bail, the defendant should most likely contact a bail bonding agent for assistance in paying for the bail amount. The bail bonding agency will supply the courts with a bail bond that will be enough to get the defendant out of jail while the defendant waits for his or her day in court.

Bail bonding services generally have a fee that is about ten percent of the total cost of the bail. The defendant may enlist the help of friends or family members to help pay this fee. Alternatively, many bail bonding agencies also provide payment options, such as credit cards, personal checks, collateral or other financing options.

The bail bonding agency will then be responsible for ensuring that the defendant returns to court for all of his or her court dates. As long as the defendant fulfills his or her legal obligations to the courts, the defendant will not have to pay the bail bonding agency any additional money for the bail. However, in the event that the defendant skips a court date, the bail bonding agency will not only go after the defendant to rearrest him and take him to court, but the bonding agency will also exercise its right to take possession of any collateral that the defendant put up as a surety to the bonding agency.
