Agoura Hills: Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and Malibu/Lost Hills Station

Police services in Agoura Hills are provided to residents through contract with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, which operates the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station.  The other cities this station serves include Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Malibu and Westlake Village.  Unincorporated communities include Chatsworth Lake Manor, Malibu Lake, Topanga and West Hills.

Here is information about various types of crimes and arrest/release procedures:

  • Low-grade crime: On a misdemeanor arrest the suspect will be taken to the station and booked. This includes fingerprinting and identification checks. He or she (in many cases) will then be released on a promise to appear citation.  The suspect may be held at the station until the court date if the circumstances dictate such action. If the offense is alcohol- or drug-related, the suspect will stay at the sheriff's station until he or she can safely care for himself or herself
  • High-grade crime: On a felony charge the suspect will be taken to the station and held until his or her court date (usually within two business days). The suspect may also have the option of bailing out.
  • Juvenile crime: Juveniles who are detained are taken to a station and held pending either a transport to juvenile hall or release to their parent/guardian.

The Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff Station uses the same procedures as other county facilities.  Booking procedures for those arrested can take 30 minutes or less if the defendant is cooperative, but the time can vary depending on other factors (including how much property needs to be listed).

When the bail bond is posted, the defendant can be out in as little as five to 10 minutes, though delays can push this up to a couple of hours depending on backlogs, including the number of people arrested in a given period.

Once bond is posted, the defendant is brought to the booking area to sign papers and walked out the jail door.  Then the walking gate is opened and the defendant is free to leave or wait in the lobby for someone to pick him or her up.

To find out the status of someone who has been arrested, call the jailer at this station or call the Inmate Information Line at 213-473-6100.  Below we have supplied you with some of the essential information for the Malibu/Los Hills Sheriff Station serving Agoura Hills.
